Back Home!!

So I am back home and couldn't be happier! I am however still playing catch up with my Project 52, I am still here though, just getting back into the swing of things.

We got home Friday evening and then I had to go into work briefly on Saturday. Tim and Tenley came to Topeka to pick me up so I got to see them right away and then we stayed up there Friday night. I kept telling myself not to expect to much when Tenley saw me for the 1st time, since she is so little and has no real concept of time. However, I was coming up the stairs, and they were waiting for me at the top, and my heart melted when she just started giggling and was full of the biggest smiles ever. Between my jet lag and her not loving the hotel pack-n-play it was a bit of a rough night, but we were together none the less.

Unfortunately, after work on Saturday I started feeling really sick and have been mostly down for the count until late this afternoon, and am still moving really slow. I had to get a couple of immunizations, and I think that coupled with being exhausted/jet lagged just was to much. Thankfully, Tim had taken today off so was home with us so I was able to rest.

All that being said, I will hopefully be caught up very soon and will also post some photos from Guam.

Endless resources. Infinite Mommy Wisdom. Getting to see these smiling faces!

We are in the home stretch and I am enjoying myself, but ready to be back home with my wonderful family. I am so glad that we had great WiFi service in our "hoochs" (temporary homes, basically a little apartment), I was able to wake up and call home right away and share my breakfast with my 2 favorite people while they were having dinner. What a blessing, but it always makes me think about what it was like years ago (or even not that long ago) when letters were the only way to commuitcate with loved ones. When spouses were seperated by thousands of miles for years at a time, and letters took weeks to deliver. Though it is hard to be away, being able to click "Call, Tim on FaceTime," makes life easier and time go so much faster!

Trust

Trust in yourself that you have made the right choices.

Trust in your spouse that they can make the right choices too,

and Trust in the village that is always there to help.

7,000 miles. Thats about how far I am from my baby Girl right now, and will be for a few weeks. Miles and miles of water seperate us. It is my 1st big trip since she was born. Leaving was hard, and there were tears. However, I knew when I signed the dotted line this would be my life, and we knew it would still be when we decided to have a baby. I want her to grow up proud of her Momma and what I do. It was hard this time and will be hard everytime I have to pack my bag, but life is a cause bigger than ourselves, and doing my part to make this world a better place for Tenley to grow up is my duty. It is tough being away, but I am determinded to make the most of it.

We are so thankful for everyone that is here to help us out and keep Tenley and Daddy in as normal of a routine as possible. I miss you guys so much and can't wait to be back home with you!

Milestones

big. small.

crawling. walking. talking.

ponytail. pigtails. salon visit...1st hair cuts!

Today was our 1st hair cut (well, trim really) and she did awesome. We both had appointments and Daddy went with us. When we got there she decided that she only wanted Momma at the moment so that meant Daddy had the camera....

She sat right up on my lap like such a big girl and was so still, a rarity for this fire plug! She thought wearing the cape was the coolest thing ever, and insisted on wearing it after Cindy was done trimming her hair. When it was Momma's turn she still wanted to sit on my lap and check it all out. She had a front seat view for my hair being washed and stuck around to watch my eyebrows being done then was off to play with some toys. I am thinking we will have many salon/spa days in our future!

I love all the edits and fun stuff you can do with it! Guess it is my holdover while I still try to learn photoshop....can we say overwhelming! A friend does "phone dump Friday" I may have to implement that as well!

Moments

Some are precious. Some make you cringe. Some just make you smile, and remember how lucky you are to be called Momma.

This one was a combination of all those moments in one. Precious is the look of discovery and accomplishment on her sweet little face. Cringe because I may have a slight case of OCD and the toilet paper I could salvage was not going to be rolled "correctly," (yes, I am fully aware that is ridiculous) but mostly I had to grab the closest camera (which happened to be my iPhone) and snap away. I do have to say that it took her until now (15 months at the time) to realize just how fun it is to unroll the toilet paper, yay. and also that after the 1st time it is still cute, but has to be corrected as inappropriate behavior. Oh the ride, it is moments like this I need to take in daily, to remember that it doesn't matter if the toilet paper is shredded, or if she does it again. It is all part of the journey and I am so grateful to be on it!

Imaginative

She is making some soup and maybe a cake. I am thinking of ways to learn numbers, letters, and colors. She is putting her {yummy} cake in the oven, and I am imagining her life; who will she become, where will her life goals lead her?

Whether imagining life tomorrow or life 20 years from now, it is what fills my days, my commute to work, and my time just watching her be. Don't get me wrong, I am definitely living in the now, but it does cross my mind...a lot!

Motherhood is:

Prioritizing

The dishes needed done. The clothes needed folded. I am sure something needed dusted...

But we NEEDED to play hide and seek. So we did. And it was wonderful!

I love the minds of little ones, when they believe if they can't see you, then surely you can't see them. Such innocents, it melts my heart. I have been working a lot lately and have a lot ahead of me. I had today off. So instead of catching up on all the housework, we spent most of our day playing and cuddling. I so enjoy these days and though I have to remind myself that the work can wait (it does grind on me to have a mess) the thought of missing these moments with my sweet girl is not worth the perfectly kept house.

Dedication

Every Morning. Every Afternoon. Every Night. Every Day.

Some days it is more trying than others, but when it comes down to it, we would do anything at any second for that sweet child.

For me I knew from the start that I wanted to nurse our daughter to be. Now 15 months later we are down to 2 sessions a day, and even that is drawing to a close. One month from today I leave for my first deployment since becoming a Mommy. I am excited for it, but my heart is breaking at the same time. I am hoping she will drop the last few on her terms like she did the ones previous, but time will tell. Wish me luck.

We have had an amazing experience nursing and I cherish those moments with my daughter more than anything. My journey was originally going to end when she was only 6 months old, with a deployment, however, with support from Commanders and coworkers I was able to stay home. I had been pumping like crazy to try and stockpile enough breast milk to get her to the one year mark. I started pumping when she was about 2 weeks old and at peak was feeding her 10-12 times a day and then pumping up to 5 times a day. When I learned I would not have to deploy I started to wean from the pump. With production very high, even that took some time. So after months of endless pumping and developing a love/hate relationship with my sidekick (pump) our freezer was full and so were the freezers of our friends. Since we now were going to be blessed to not need the extra it was time to find a milk bank. Fortunately, there is one in Kansas City, only an hour and one half from where we live. I got in contact with them and went through the process; paper and medical and ended up begin able to donate 7,901 ounces. What an amazing feeling to know you are going to be able to help our so many other Mommy's and Babies.

I am not telling this story for any kudos WHAT.SO.EVER! But to share that it isn't always easy, it isn't always convenient, but it is ALWAYS worth it. Whether it be breastfeeding, meal choices, what shirt to wear, when to vaccinate, etc being called Mommy takes dedication, and I wouldn't want it any other way!

always being ready to learn!

I have taken in so much over the last 15 months. From other Momma wisdom, to the life lessons taught to me by someone so small and so precious. They are all priceless and I will treasure them always.

But, now to add to my list of things to learn is my camera and newly installed Photoshop. Overwhelmed barely begins to cover it. The camera I am getting, I am fairly comfortable in manual mode, but I know it can do so much more and I just need to put the time into it to better my skills. As for Photoshop, that is a who new world to me, so wish me luck. My families memories are so worth it, that the only motivation I need (well that and some time locked in the office to read and practice!)

Yep, I am going to tackle a Project 52, and I am really excited about it. For those that don't know a Project 52 is a weekly project to take you through the year. I was truly inspired by Shawna's Project 52 on StyleberryBLOG over the last year. With that in mind, with the new year I decided to give it a go this year.

I thought and thought about a theme/topic and kept coming back to one thing. I was hesitant to use it because it is what Shawna wrote on all year and I didn't want to be a copy. I wanted it to by my own, and like I said I certainly don't want to steal another persons work. However....it was and is the one topic that I live for each and everyday, what gets me up in the morning and puts a smile on my face so much throughout the day. So what could it be..Motherhood (of course)

So, my challenge to myself is to capture a moment or event each week that describes where I am in my journey called Motherhood. The good, the bad, and everywhere in-between. I normally will post it each Friday, but am late this week because I had drill all weekend and am just home to my computer now. So here we go....I am sure it will be a wild ride!

The Pewi | Y Bike

We. Love. This. Thing.

I was flipping through facebook one day and happened to see this posted on giggle, it wasn't something I was looking for, but also couldn't pass up. Y Bike makes a line of balance bikes, and the Pewi is the version for little ones. I read through some reviews before clicking buy, and they were all great. It is the perfect size for Tenley, and she will also grow with it all at the same time. They say is is great for learning to walk, however, it rolls very easily so unless you have a stable walker I would be cautious of that. However, Tenley LOVES pushing this thing all over the house. She can climb up on it on her own, and her legs are long enough to sit on it and scoot around. The wheels are on a caster so they roll smoothly in all directions. No hard turns or steering to navigate. She was all about giving her babies rides too!

It is so much fun to see what all this little lady is learning lately. Not only do we love to give our babies rides, we love to "love them," comb our hair, give hugs..to anyone or anything that will stand still long enough, and wear ALL jewelry that we can get our hands on. She is really understanding short instructions and is compliant most* of the time...ie, take it to Mommy/Daddy, put [item] in box/bag. etc., sit, stand, "not for little girls" we try to use that in lieu of "no" in hopes that she will not use "no" on us so soon. I know there is many more, but I will use those for another post and remember what they are. So cute, and so fun!

This year marked the first year that we have stayed in Chanute to begin our own Christmas traditions. It was weird not being home, but we want Tenley to wake up in her own bed Christmas morning. Tim actually had to to work Christmas Day this year, so we did our Christmas on Christmas Eve and then her and I played and snuggled all day on Christmas Day. We hope he can be home with us next year though.

She really got the hang of ripping the paper open and digging into all the gifts, which we weren't sure if she would get. She would rip some open then just giggle and then continue. What a joy! As for how she did with all the Christmas decorations, like I said before, wonderful! She just loves looking at everything sparkling around her. We will leave the trees up through Epiphany then it will be time for them to come down. I always feel like the house is so bare after the Christmas season and everything is put away for another year. But soon enough it will be time to get the spring out and that is always a welcome change when it gets here!

A coulple of years ago a good friend of mine and her little boy hosted a birthday party for Jesus at Christmas time, as soon as I read about it on her blog, I knew that was something that I wanted to do when we had kids of our own. Such a great idea to make sure that the little ones are reminded of the true reason for the sparkly lights, big dinners, and gifts.

This year was the beginning of a great tradition. We baked a red and green layered birthday cake, had goodies, made ornaments, and had drawn names for the kids to exchange gifts. It was a great time, a bit crazy, but the kids had fun, and that is what matters, right?!

Making Christmas Memories

A few weeks back I saw this recipe on Pinterest to make hand print ornaments and knew we needed to give it a try. So we had a few of Tenley's friends over and to work we went.

Logan and Erin, he was more into playing with the dough, but they did get an ornament made.

Tenley and I, she did great. I wasn't sure if she would get it or not, but she sat down on my lap and plopped her hand right down. It kept her attention for 3 ornaments, enough for us and the Grandparents! Success.

Great Buddies!!

I think this will have to be an annual event, not sure if it will be for more hand ornaments or something new. If we keep the hands up we will eventually have to add a "hand print tree" to our collection....

..and a note on the recipe if any of you decide to try it out...she said that she made 3 ornaments, we made 6 and still had dough left over. We also just let ours sit out to dry and it took close to a week to dry completely and I did end up popping them in the oven for about 20 minutes (she said 24 hours). They turned out so cute, and the Grandparents loved them.

Visiting the Sieben's

We finally got to visit our dear friends The Sieben's in Missouri a couple of weekends ago. They have a daughter, Josie, who is just a few weeks older than Tenley, it was beyond fun to watch these girls play together. So much so, that we forgot to take to many pictures of them.

We are so thrilled that they are closer to us now, as they are stations at Whiteman AFB. Much better to have some of your best friends only 3 hours away rather than 11 hours in Mississippi where our friendship started in pilot training. Thanks for hosting us, and we hope we get to see you again soon! And we can't wait to welcome Baby Sieben #2 in March!!

oh, will I ever figure out a balance for this blog....who knows. I just uploaded over 200 pictures starting with Thanksgiving. We made the trip out to Goodland to celebrate with Tim's family. It is always a great time with lots of food, people, conversation, fun, and love! It was a beautiful weather weekend so Tenley got to go outside with the boys for a little while!

Christmas Wonder

I was driving home from work in Topeka last week and couldn't get over how pretty the light was. As soon as I came in the door, I told Tim we HAD to get outside and get some pictures of our little cutie before the light was gone. Yep, these photos have been sitting on my camera for about a month. I feel like November fly by and I barely had time to blink. I was working full time at Forbes for a lot of the month so time at home was spent playing and cuddling not blogging. As of now December is looking "fairly" quiet although as Christmas gets closer I am sure it will fill up quick!

For now here is our little girl all decked out Peacock style. (since I do realize Halloween was basically a month ago, I guess these are for the Grandparents to aww over)

Spook Parade

The 28th was the annual Spook Parade in Chanute. Each year they have a trick or treat to the businesses on main street followed by a parade of the kids in their costumes. It was one of Tenely's 1st outings last year (she was a spider) so we went back this year. She isn't big enough to be in the parade, but we still dressed up to go and see the other kids.

We did only stay downtown briefly because we were still in the process of getting over our first bout with bronchitis. Which, by the way, was NO fun; the poor girl was one sick baby and it was hear wrenching. We had a few rough days and nights, but now we are back to our silly self.

As for Halloween, well it came and went. We had high hopes, and then the pager went off, and then Daddy was out the door. 2 structure fires at once leads to a department wide recall...

So Tenely and I were off to do some trick or treating ourselves. We had a good time and she was spoiled by all! Tenley friendly snacks, books, books, and books! I love it, and so does she. Added bonus, she can always look at/read her book and we are "good" parents. No candy for her to want means we aren't the "mean" parents when we won't let her have it. I wonder if that will still work next year...I have me doubts... At any rate, we are awaiting a nice day that we are both home to re-create Halloween so that I can actually get some good photos of her in her peacock costume! Stay tuned!

"Love your Baby"

This girl is so full of love already it melts my heart. Her new thing (or in the last few weeks) is to give her Baby lots of "love" whenever we say, "love your baby." So, so sweet, and I see lots of babe dolls in our future. The pictures aren't great, but you get the idea...and I will work on better photos.

And not to worry, Maggie gets the same love that the babe's do! She is such a good sport about it and just lays there for Tenley to do as she pleases', Hunter on the other hand heads for high ground. He does well with her, but is kind of a grumpy old man and just hides or stays out of her reach.

Also, do you like our ~~burp cloth~~ scarf? She spent the better part of an afternoon wearing this around the house.

It took me a while to get this done (or I should say, figure out how to do it) A video was a must for this or you would be scrolling through photos for days.

Enjoy your trip to ONEdeland with our precious baby girl. I can't believe it has been a year since we welcomed her into this world, and we are better people everyday because of her. She has shown us how to love more fully, laugh when thats all you can do, and live in the moment and not worry so much about tomorrow, which is a lesson that Mommy needs a reminder of almost daily. Just when we think it can't possibly get any better we wake up to a new day, and learn we were wrong, it can and does get better with each and every second that we get to be called Parents. A blessing barely begins to cover it.

Tenley's 1st Royals Game

We are working on making her a fan already! The end of September we met up with my parents in Kansas City to take in a Royals game. Though they were out of any race already (big surprise; it is the Royals folks) they did put up a win the night we were there. It was a pretty exciting game, and we all had a great time. We started the festivities with a "fan experience" tour that took us through the Hall of Fame and then down to check out batting practice.

Time for some tailgating!

After the tour it was time for some tailgating....this was all planned out to be a great meal by Tim, only thing we didn't plan for was that the grill would be broke. The threads to attach the little propane bottle were stripped...so no grilling for us....good thing he had plenty of sides. I felt kinda bad because he had gone to the work to get everything in order and all set up just to have it tank. Tenley, however, still enjoyed her meal!

The game started well before Tenley's bedtime, but ended well after it. In her normal fashion she was not about to have anything to do with sleep when there was action around her. She did pretty well, but I was grateful there were 4 of us to pass her around too. She never had a melt down, just got very restless.

As soon as we got in the car after the game it was this face for a second, and then out like a light!

(& fail on us for putting her in her seat with her coat on...thus you get to hear a car seat rant...I may be compulsive about car seat safety, but it amazes me everyday how I see car seats installed, used, not used, etc....just today as a person was leaving our garage sale with a wee one, I saw their car seat...INFANT car seat placed in the back, middle (ok points for being in the middle) but it was forward facing...hello, rear facing car seat. And recommended until age two! It may not be the law, and yes she was buckled in BUT COME ON! So, while typing this rant I have decided that a post in the near future will deal with basic car seat safety. The dos, the don'ts, what I have learned, a bit dull yes, but hopefully someone who reads this will learn something or be able to pass on some knowledge. PS...I didn't know it before I was called Mommy, and in having our car seat installation inspected by a certified car seat guy I learned A LOT! Also, I will learn his actual title before I make the post...thus end my rant! Thanks!

The Pumpkin Patch

What a great weekend we just had. On October 1st we celebrated our sweet girl's 1st birthday with a trip to ONEderland, and a Madhatter birthday party. I will be overloading you will pictures of that very soon, but I wanted to get some other shorter posts done first.

Much of our family was only able to be here for a short time, but my parents got to stay the whole weekend. Sunday was a beautiful day so we make the short trip over to Independence, KS to Reichenberger's Pumpkin Patch We took in some of the maze and wandered the pumpkin patch as well. We went last year with our very newborn so it was fun to see her this year actually enjoying it and taking it all in. I think I enjoyed it a bit more too, since I wasn't recovering from labor and delivery this time!

What a difference a year makes!!

The maze! There are 5 different mazes mixed within it. We only got through one...we were short on time, but I doubt it would have mattered, they are tough!

I am sure this will be a family tradition for years to come. However, I think next year she will be running from pumpkin to pumpkin saying, "This one Daddy!" I look forward to that, maybe he will give in to her easier than me! I could come home with a truck load! I LOVE FALL!

The end of September brings about a handful of kiddo birthdays for some of our close friends. 3 of the kids have birthdays in a week, separated by a day. Two of them are a day apart and one a year later. Each year we get together to celebrate with them and it is always such fun. I remember thinking last year that there was a good chance that we would be adding a little one to that birthday week, but Miss Tenley had other plans and would wait a few weeks to arrive. This year it was a bit surreal to now be there with her in tow!

The crew, when we moved to Chanute there were 2, and they were not even a year old. What a joy to watch all these kiddos grow up!

11 Months

Yep, I am fully aware that she will be ONE a week from today, and I am just getting this done. go figure! Lately every spare minute after bedtime has gone into planning our trip to "ONEderland" Trust me after the party is said and done you will probably all be sick of hearing about it, but until then here is our 11 month old beauty!

Nobody can accuse this girl of being camera shy!! The cheese turns on even more when she sees Mommy with the camera! What a goof! When we took her in to be weighed she was 18 pounds and 15 ounces, so we are still long, but petite.

Also since we were in a time of remembrance in this house for the lives lost, and heroes made; we decided it was appropriate to remember 9-11 with her sign for the month in honor of the 343 fallen firefighters. No matter the time or month, please Never Forget.

Labor Day Weekend

Well, a few weeks ago we took our opportunity to get in one last swim before the Kelly's closed the pool for the fall and winter season. I found it a bit surreal that last year at this time I was floating around lounging in the pool staying cool and comfortable, and this year we were playing and splashing with our sweet girl! What fun!

Forever Friends

I said we would have to go back a while...this is from the beginning of August when we were home for fair and rodeo.

These are some of my dearest friends, all from high school. We have pretty much all grown up together since we were the size of our kiddos. We have been through it all, the good, and the bad. Through playground fun, junior high drama, high school antics, college changes, weddings, and now babies. No matter where life has taken us or continues to go I am ever so thankful for these girls. Though we may not get to talk daily or even weekly, I always know our conversation will easily pick up right where it left off. These are the friendships people hope for and I am blessed to have them in my life. The part that makes me smile even more is that now our children will get to grow up together creating a special friendship themselves!

Wow, almost a month with no posts...FAIL! Now it is time to get you all caught up and myself back on track. We have been so beyond busy lately that any free time we do have is spent cuddling and playing with our sweet girl, and planning a visit to ONEderland (more on the birthday planning later.) I have to be honest blogging was not at the top of my list! But, tomorrow it starts. We may have to go back a month (or more) to catch up, but I promise the cuteness will make it all worth it! What a fun time it is in this house! We are go. go. go! 10 months brought about full speed crawling, and we are pretty sure it close to the speed of sound. It's amazing how fast that girl can move. No more running to the next room to do something and knowing she will be fine for 4 seconds. I am even more greatful now that our living room, kitchen, dining room are all open. It makes it a bit easier to get dinner going, make her food, clean or whatever it is that needs to be done while she plays in the living room area. She does so well at playing/entertaining herself, an we are SO greatful for that. She is also now pulling up on absoutly everything and starting to stand all on her own. She will pull herself up and sometimes let go, that is until she realizes that she isn't holding on to anything and then plops down on her fluffy little bum. It is so darn cute! We were back home for rodeo over her 10 month birthday so these pictures were taken when we got back to Chanute. (only a few days late, not the almost 3 weeks late I am with posting them) Her weight this month was 17 lbs 12 ozs. She continues to be a skinny thing, but she is in the 75% for her height, trust me this girl eats like a horse, and loves everything.

Just Precious if I do say so. I can look at her pictures all day everyday and melt each time. She is such a joy. Her expressions are endless, her giggles plentiful, her love already abounding, we are so beyond lucky to have this ~~little girl~~ baby in our lives!

Also, we tend to get a lot of questions about her "necklace." How do ya like our "Pebbles" look?

We have been spending a lot of time, while at home, on these really hot days in just our diaper. They are so darn cute though, who needs anything else! Not only that, but she has a much easier time crawling in that versus her dresses...though adorable and we pretty much live in them. Daddy loves the ease of a diaper change with a dress, and I would agree that it makes things pretty simple! We are not all that excited about all the layers that come with cold weather, but it will only take a few more 100+ days to change that. The biggest challenge will be the fact that last winter she just laid on her changing pad so sweetly, with out a wiggle.....those days, well they are LONG GONE!!

For more excitement for Tenley while we were home, Aunt Megan wanted to introduce Tenley to her chickens and ducks. She had already showed her the ones at the county fair (not hers, but exhibitors,) so now we got to go see hers. This Mama is not so fond of anything feathery so I am glad Megan could show her. We headed to the chicken coop to check them out, I do have to say they were some pretty cool looking chickens, and we found their first egg when we got there. Megan said that their eggs are not good for eating as these chickens are a novelty and not really good for much else. She has 2 hens, 1 rooster, and a few Mallard ducks. Tenley got to check them all out. I got to keep my distance and snap photos.

Meeting Cousin Alex | Phillipsburg Park

When we left Chanute it was during the seemingly endless stretch of 100+ degree days, when we got home it was still hot (but seemed only warm when compared to what we left,) however, once the heat lifted some rain rolled in. We took our window of opportunity to go meet Tenley's (2nd) cousin Alex at the park. This was the 1st meeting for the two of them. I can't wait until they get to hang out again, because I am guessing Tenley will be walking by then and I am sure they will have a blast!

Phillipsburg has a wonderful park for the kids that they did a lot of work to raise funds and build. I am sure as she gets older we will spend a lot of time there when we are back home.

Kansas Biggest Rodeo 2011

The 1st week in August always means it is time to make a trip back to Phillipsburg for Kansas Biggest Rodeo. Our small town of roughly 2,000 people swells to many more, and the atmosphere around town is contagious. People are everywhere, a parade, family reunions, class reunions, it all abounds throughout the week. The rodeo runs from Thursday through Saturday night, with 2 nights of slack on Tuesday and Wednesday. Saturday night is always sold out with thousands of people packing the stands. When I was younger our county fair also took place during that week. Now the fair is the week prior so it brings close to two weeks of fun (and exhaustion) to many parents and kids in the area.

This year we decided to take some extra time and enjoy some time back home before the craziness of rodeo hit. We got to be home from July 30- August 8. It was great, we had so much for just enjoying being home, relaxing, seeing everyone love on Tenley, and the Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles loved having some time with the little lady! Tenley joined us at rodeo on Thursday night, but then Friday and Saturday she spent the evening with Grandpa Dennis so Mommy and Daddy could have a few nights out. We had so much fun taking her and she LOVED it! Rodeo kicks off at 8:00 p.m. (IE bedtime) but like always she did fantastic! She of course stayed awake through it all, but was out before we got out of the parking lot.

Why all the pink? Thursday night is always "Pink Night" at the rodeo. For each person wearing pink $1.00 is donated to the local Relay for Life, this year the ethanol plant matched the money raised. This is an even that goes on at many PRCA rodeos throughout the country.

I debated about even posting these...is there a time limit as to how old pictures can be to blog them. I mean we are only 1 month 1 week 1 day past the 4th of July right? Oh well. I actually just found them on my computer. Tim put them on here way back and I didn't realize we had them.

We were invited to Garnet to spend the 4th with the Lickteig's and thier family and friends. I neglected to take ANY pictures, but thankfully Marcia got some good ones. Tenley loved the fireworks just as much as she did at DisneyWorld. She was not about to go to sleep and miss something, even though bed time is at 7:45, and we hadn't really even started the fireworks show yet. She lasted through it all, she would clap and cheer with each bang...to cute!! Here is the photo recap, then I promise the following posts will be a bit more current! (however, I figure the Grandparents love to see pictues of her, no matter how old!)

Cousin Time

While we were home for my 10 year class reunion (July 9th), Tenley got some Grandparent time, which lead to (2nd) cousin time. For the class reunion we had family time at the park on Saturday afternoon, that we all went too. It was VERY hot, so we didn't stay a really long time, but it was good to see friends and their families. That evening we had dinner at Willer's, and it was a Mommy & Daddy outing. Tenley stayed home at Grandma and Grandpa Chester's while we went out. My mom had invited the Great Grandmas down for dinner so that they could all see Miss Tenley. My cousin Chelsey, who was also in my class, and her husband Mike were at the class reunion as well, so her kids were with Great Grandma Hanke. They got to come to Mom's house too and Tenley had such a good time playing with them! Come see us again soon Corey, Ciara, and Cailyn!!

1st Pony Ride!

It finally wasn't freezing, or to hot, or to windy. She is now big enough, and Mommy was brave enough for her very 1st "trail ride." This was something that we had been looking forward to for sometime, but it seemed that each time we were home it just hadn't worked out. Aunt Megan was really excited to get Miss Tenley up on a horse. Patrick has a handful of horses right now that are gentle enough for us to all take out. This isn't always the case since he breaks and trains them for a living...sometimes they are a bit to "bronc" to just take out for a ride. But, we finally got to do it. It was a beautiful day and we took advantage of it!

We all had such a great time. Tenley loved riding and she did so well the whole time. Like I said she rode with Uncle Pat, I trust his riding skills much more than my own! She giggled, talked, and just took it all in while we road. We didn't have a lot of time, because we had my 10 year class reunion to go to that evening. Even so we can't wait to go again!

When hanging out at Grandma and Papa's house there is always someone to play with. This time it was Uncle Pat and Aunt Megan. These pictures are from a few weeks back, but I forgot to bring the laptop with us, so I was just able to get them (since we are back home again now.) Tenley has such a great time playing with them, and I will venture to say that they don't mind playing with her either! I just love seeing them all interact. She is a loved little girl!

So the days of sitting her in one spot, running to the other room, and knowing that she would be RIGHT there when we came back...well those days are long gone! We are VERY mobile. We have been for a few weeks now, but I am just getting to post it. And, I had a cute video of her crawling on my phone and then had to reset it to factory settings so I lost it. (thank goodness, I had only had the new {iphone}for a few days when it happened) I will get another one and show it off. I may just be one of the cutest things I have ever seen. Actually, not maybe, it is.

9 Months Old!

This little girl amazes us more and more each day! We had a big month with learning how to pull up all on our own, to trips to Topeka and DisneyWorld, so close to crawling (which now is mastered, yikes!), and she did it all with a giant smile on her face! What a beautiful personality this little girl has, and she is pretty cute too!!

9 Month Stats:

17 lb 10 ozs.

28 inches long, she is going to be tall like Mommy!

I didn't get a great amount of good photos from this little photo shoot. It was hot, she was sleepy, and this was what we got. And don't worry, the plastic will be staying on that lollipop for teh foreseeable future!

Still going back in time, to the 17-19th of June (part of Father's day weekend that we just talked about) we had my Mom and my Grandma Chester here with us. Tenley was a lucky little girl to have two of her Grandma's here to ~~spoil~~ love on her!

1st Father's Day (a month later)

Way behind....yes! Better late than never I guess.

We celebrated Father's Day on the 18th of June (it was the 19th) because Daddy had to work at the fire dept on the 19th. It was such a special day, not only did we get to celebrate what a great Daddy Tenley has, but it was also out 6 year wedding anniversary. My Mom and Grandma Chester had gotten here on Friday (my 28th birthday) to celebrate the weekend with us. It was nice to have them here and it really helped on Sunday when I was getting us packed for our Disney trip.

But back to Father's Day!! We are working on our outdoor room on our back patio, so we decided to get Daddy some speakers to put up out back. They will be great for BBQs and he wants to have a TV put out there by football season to watch games! We are so lucky to have such a wonderful husband and daddy in our lives. He is so attentive to Tenley and I love seeing him with her each and everyday! I thought I loved him before, but now, since Tenley came into our lives I love him even more. What lucky girls we are!!

We had such a wonderful time at Disney, and are so greatful Sam, Shawn, and Layla invited us along! We look forward to our next vacation with them!

For anyone wondering (or thinking) if it is crazy take a baby on vacation, here is my thoughts...sure, she won't remember it, but we will. We will never forget that experience with her or the look on her face when the fireworks when off, or she experienced something new. It is a moment for her, and that is what made the memory so special for us!

Plus, I am convinced there is no easier place to take a baby than Disney! They are set up for it..the babycare centers made life so simple (and they are at each park.) They are centers that have nursing rooms, changing tables, high chairs, and great air conditioning. We would head to it when it was time for Tenley to eat her solids. For just nuring, we would just go with where we were at. They are spotless and have very helpful staff. Strollers could go in someplaces, but everywhere had stroller parking. If babe was sleeping then *most* places would allow the stroller to come in as to not disturb them. It is truely family friendly (as it should be) but they do a fantastic job of accomidating everyone! Maybe it really is the happiest place on Earth!

DisneyWorld! June 2011

So we did what we said we would never do, what we thought other parents were crazy for doing. We took our (then) 8 month old sweet baby girl to DisneyWorld. And ya know what, we would do it again IN A SECOND!!

We had a last minute trip opportunity come up towards the end of June. Some great friends of ours asked us if we would like to join them for the week, as they were taking their 3 year old daughter as well. We were so excited that it worked out that we could go. It was a bit unlike us me to do something so last minute (I had about a weeks notice) because I normally plan/research our vacations A TON! However, with an 8 month old and a 3 year old in tow, our "plan" was to do what worked at the moment and let them lead. That plan was successful!!

The trip started super early with a 6:20 a.m. departure out of KS City, this put us in Orlando before 11:00 a.m. eastern time. This was my first worry, how would Tenley do on the plane? I really didn't want to be "those" people on the jet! Since she is normally not even out of bed in the mornings until 7:30ish, waking her up at 4 a.m was bound to throw her off. However, she proved to us just how sweet she is (of course) and was a doll. She didn't' get fussy until just before take off. This was actually perfect because we wanted to give her, her morning bottle on takeoff and climb out to keep her ears clear with the pressure changes. We also didn't have a full flight so we were able to have a full row (3 seats) to ourselves. This allowed her to have some room to play and stretch, however, Mommy wasn't going to pass up an opportunity to cuddle her while she slept!! So we played and napped, and then we were starting descent, I nursed her again on this portion of the flight to again keep her ears clear. It worked like a charm and before we knew it we were taking on DisneyWorld!

Since we got there so early we still had basically a full day to get settled, get our tickets, and check out a park. We decided to start at Animal Kingdom. It was fantastic, we saw a great parade pretty much as soon as we got there. It was at this point that Tim and I knew we had made the right decision to bring Tenley. When the parade started she started giggling, clapping, and was glued to all of the movement, colors, and characters in front of her. It made my heart erupt with joy to see she so happy! After that we took on a safari, which was so neat. We all loved it, but Tenley was getting super tired, and fell asleep on Daddy while we "toured" Africa! We also met Minnie at Animal Kingdom. We turned in fairly early that day since it had been such an early morning, and we wanted to get a good start the next day.

Wednesday, we started at one of the water parks, Typhoon Lagoon. We got there mid-moring which was perfect because the heat of the day hadn't set in yet, and it was much less crowded. The girls loved it, and so did we! After the water park we headed to the main event...Magic Kingdom!! We had about half a day left and then we were also staying for the light parade and fireworks that night. It was all amazing! We went and met Aurora, Belle, and Cinderella before taking in some of the park. What fun, it is interesting because the characters are constantly "in character" even to the adults...Belle told me about her new teacup :) Tenley did great meeting all of them! We thought the light parade and fireworks may be asking for a meltdown since they began at 9:00 eastern (8:00 central....ie...bedtime), however, again our sweet girl was up for the challenge. We ended up standing in one spot for about 1.5 hours so that we had a PERFECT spot for the parade. She fell asleep at the beginning of our camp out (as did Layla, our friends girl). She got a good, hard nap, and then as if on que, when the parade started she woke up and was is such a wonderful mood. She LOVED the parade, she would watch one float until her little head couldn't turn anymore and then she would find the next one. She also loved the laser show on the castle, but I think the fireworks may have been her favorite. With each display she would clap, and cheer, and giggle! It was such a special moment to watch them with her and her Daddy, I actually got really choked up. I so enjoy creating all of these moments and memories with my wonderful little family!

The next day, we slept in a bit since we had kept everyone out late the night before. Thursday we took in Sea World and Epcot. It was blazing hot that day which lead us to go back to the condo for awhile for a nap and cool off for the girls. Tenley

Friday, we were back at Magic Kingdom to take it all in at a slow pace. We saw all of the park that we wanted, found some great meals, and met Mickey and Minnie! It was fantastic! Tim and I both agree that Magic Kingdom was our favorite! So much to see, rides to ride, shops to check out, and just a great place to enjoy. We look forward to taking Tenley back many times!

Summer Fun

Yesterday after many days of working and general craziness we all finally had a day at home together. It was bliss! We had a great day just enjoying each others company and relaxing. We headed next door for a swim in the late afternoon. Tenley normally LOVES the water, but yesterday we were just a bit out of sorts, so I only got a few pictures. I adore seeing her and Tim together. Melts my heart!

Over June drill the air museum down the road from base held an airshow. They had multiple booths, and a few jets/airplanes on static display. The 190th had a jet on show, so we took the opportunity to "show" Miss Tenley. Don't know that she cared, but we had fun.

Also on display was a C-130 from St. Joe Missouri. We should have gotten some pictures of that as well, because one of my very best friends was on the crew that brought the jet down. It was great getting to see Mark and meet the rest of the crew he was there with.

Hanging with Grandpa Dennis & Working Full Time

Drill weekend in May brought a first for me...I went without Tim or Tenley. Since she was born we have all 3 been going to Topeka for the weekend so that I didn't have to leave her. However, some ago Tim had agreed to work for one of the guys at the Fire Department and at the time didn't realize that it was drill weekend. Not only did he have to work the extra day, but the other day of the weekend was also his to work. Yay, for a double shift on the weekend...ugg. So it was Grandpa Dennis to the rescue. He was more than happy to come down for the weekend to ~~take care of~~ spoil his sweet Granddaughter. They had such a good time, and leaving her is always hard, but knowing she is in good hands helps.

I had a hard time with the weekend, because the following Monday (May 16) I would be starting full time in Topeka for a few months. I haven't worked full time since her arrival, and truthfully it was like going back for the first time all over again. Once I got there and got busy with work it was better, but still tough. However, with that said I am so grateful for the opportunity to work up there and backfill for others while they are deployed. Having a job that requires you to be gone is tough, and having one that requires you to deploy is even harder. Before Tenley was born I was convinced I could do it (deploy), it was in fact my job and one that I really love to do.... however, as my date got nearer the tears came more and more often. I decided to approach them at work to see if I would by any chance not have to deploy this year. I am still nursing and was (and am not) ready to stop yet, and the thought of leaving her for an extended period of time at this point was/is heartbreaking. With the support of great peers and supervisors my wish came true, I would not have to deploy this rotation. What I would be able to do is backfill at the base while others are taking care of business around the world. I am truly blessed to have friends that were willing to step up even more that they already had to make it possible for me to stay home. So each time I start to feel burned out, frustrated with my alarm going off at 4:30 a.m. to start my day, and guilty for leaving Miss Tenely, I remind myself what others are doing so that I have the opportunity to wake up at 4:30, to drive to Topeka for a day of work, and then drive home and be with my girl..each.night. I am eternally grateful to you all!

(the new daily work schedule is why the posts have been slim lately...I am getting in the swing of things a big more so will do my best to pick up the pace)

Mommy's Girl?

It has taken me almost 8 months to get these pictures posted, but finally, here we go. I am definitely seeing a big mommy resemblance in this picture. Will it stay this way? Is it even still this way? Who knows. I need to get some other photos of Tim and I and do some comparisons. We get a pretty split she looks like mommy or she looks like daddy. Guess only time will tell, but one thing for sure she is already turning into her own little person and she is such a joy!

A wedding weekend

Last weekend we traveled to Colby, KS where Tim's best friend, Curt, was married. Tim stood up as Curt's best man, just as Curt did at our wedding for Tim (which I can hardly believe was nearing 6 years ago!) I was a long drive out to western Kansas, but as always Tenley did amazing. She is such a great traveler, we just hope and pray it stays that way.

We headed out Friday morning at 9:10 a.m. (I only say the specific time because 9:00 was our goal...I would say we did pretty dang good!) we arrived in Colby about 4:15 that afternoon. We had to make a few stops along the way to eat of course and then we stopped at a great little cloth diaper store in Wichita as well. Sweet Cheeks...for any fluffy moms (or dads) I highly recommend it, nice things, good prices, SUPER nice people! Anyway, that evening we went to rehearsal and then went back to the room. We got Tenley to bed and then Tim went to meet up with some of the wedding party at the hotel restaurant/bar for a while. I got some reading done and headed to bed somewhat early...BLISS.

The next day, Tim was busy with wedding activities so Tenley and I got to hang out all day. We played in the hotel room, went swimming, played with Grandpa Dennis, and waited for Grandma and Papa Chester to get there. They came out to ~~see us~~ see Tenley, and sit with her that evening after the wedding ceremony so that I could stay down at the dinner and dance with Tim to celebrate. We were so glad that they were able to make it out and spend some time with all of us, it is always so much fun. Grandma was armed with the camera, and she got some shots for us. I, however, don't think I got a a single photo all weekend....very uncommon for me...so we are glad Grandma was ready. Here is a few:

Also, on the 21st my parents celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary. They are such an inspiration to me as they have demonstrated to us what a loving marriage and family looks like. Through the good and not so good, fun and work, they always have come through it together, and for that demonstration of love, I am so grateful. We are blessed to have them to look to for guidance and advice. So, again Happy 29th Anniversary Mom & Dad, we love you so very much!

While we were at the wedding, we sent them out for an anniversary dinner. So they got a date AND Granddaughter time..jackpot for them!!

We tried, We tried to make bows just a part of our being. We hoped they wouldn't be noticed. They were.

What a silly girl! She got ahold of that things and was determined. Lucky for us, after we let her discover it (mainly because I wanted pictues of it) we put it back on her and we were happy as could be and the flower remained untouched! Yippie! She normally does so very well and just leaves whatever hair ditty we pick for the day alone, but this day was different, this day it was fun!

Sweet Summer Time...

...or at least it was for a few days. Then cold, rain, and yuck set in again. However, we seized the moment when it was teasing us with beautiful weather and got outside. I had told Tim that I was going to get Miss Tenley a small pool for the back yard, and I am pretty sure he thought I was a bit nuts...why would you want that when our great neighbors have a REAL pool only a few steps away? Well, I did get her pool, and she loved it.

( This actually took place on 11 May...however, with little time to actually sit and blog it has taken me a while to get it on here....last week when I had time to blog, blogger was down for what seemed like days. I had this whole post done, and when I clicked "post" it laughed at me, lost my post, and said come back next week...so here we are...did anyone else have this problem?)

Mother's Day 2011

What a wonderful 1st Mother's Day I had. I was spoiled all day by my Hubby and sweet girl. Tim took the day off from the Fire Dept. which was so appriciated. We started the day going to Mass and then they took me out for brunch. We have spent the last 8ish months going to RCIA class after mass (which is now over) so it was really nice to be able to go out afterwards. After that we came home and it was nearing nap time for Miss Tenley. Tim and I just lounged around and enjoyed being home. After Tenley woke up they took me on a bit of a shopping spree for flowers and plants. I had told Tim I just wanted a quiet day with my 2 favorite people and to get some planting done. It was tons of fun for me to just say, "I like this one" followed by, "this is your chance" from Tim. Yay! I also had 2 cards waiting for me that morning, one from Tim and one from Tenley...she even hand made it and wrote such a sweet letter, it brought me to tears! And, to add to my Mother's Day goodies, Tenley and I get to pick out an accessory for the Bugaboo stroller (Tim did put a disclaimer on the accessory that he has to "approve" it) Spoiled...I think yes!

We got a few pictures, but this was just before the nap so it was a bit of a challenge....

7 Months Old

SLOW DOWN BABY GIRL!! What a true joy this little lady is. She is happy and smiles 99% of everyday and makes us laugh continually. She is doing so awsome, and when we went in and had her weighed on her 7 month birthday (May 3, 2011) she weighed 16lbs 11ozs. We are still wearing 3-6 month clothes. Even some of them are pretty big on her. She has a little buddha belly, but a skinny little waist so alot of the pants are big. Good thing we love summer dresses in this house! Even Daddy loves them...much easier for diaper changes.

She is loving all the new foods that we are trying out. The only thing that took a couple of tries was bananas. Now, those are a hit as well. We have had sweet potatoes, avocado, zucchini, yellow squash, asparagus, sweet peas, apples, bananas, pears, peaches, and have the fridge stocked with new things to try. I am having so much fun making all of her food, and I do have to say it is pretty yummy!

We are a bit behind with the pictures this month, I wanted to get some outside, and every time I would think of it, it was to bright out or raining...I got a few (not all that great though) and then we ended up snapping them inside.

Those Pearly Whites!

We have had these pearly whites for a while, but getting a photo of them has been a challenge to say the least. We thought that last week was going to bring another lower tooth, but after a few rough nights, some cranky days, and lots of drool, it seems as though it has decided to lay low for the time being. I am good with a LONG break until the next one!! She didn't have to many problems with the first 2, but I know she was uncomfortable. She woke a few times in the night, but got herself back to sleep quickly and had a temperature one evening, however, it was only at 99 degrees. Say your prayers that the other come so smoothly! So, for now she is back to her chipper self!

We had a wonderful Easter, and so enjoyed having our Family here to celebrate with us. My Mom, Grandma Hanke, Tim's Dad, and Grandma Barb were able to come and spend a few days with us. Dad had to work so was not able to be here, and we missed him but are so happy for his new job and that it is going so well. We will hopefully get to see him very soon!

Here is a ~~brief~~ picture recap of the weekend, it was raining and and not very nice on Easter Sunday, so I still need to take Tenley outside in her Easter dress to get some pictures. I was planning to do it today, but the wind was crazy. Maybe tomorrow....

Practice makes perfect...and we are practicing daily! It has been a bit overwhelming lately for me to keep up with all of the "new' things that Tenley needs to be introduced too. From sippy cups, to a proper/balanced diet, to interactive toys, to new songs, etc. this little one has so much to explore daily...and her Mommy has so much to learn daily! I have to remind myself that I need to relax at times and just enjoy where we are and not worry so much about being "right" all the time. To do what makes sense for our family and not let the book guide me to much. However, what did we do before mommy blogs with such great information and stories and encouragement and failures and successes and I could go on and on....

At any rate this little girl is the light of my life and her smiles and giggle serve as my reminder that we are doing what we know to be right and she is happy with it (as are we!)
